MUSCAT: The Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has conducted a series of field visits to healthcare and social institutions across the governorates of Al Batinah North and Al Buraimi, as part of its mandate to monitor and promote human rights standards in the Sultanate of Oman.

The delegation, headed by Prof Rashid bin Hamad al Balushi, visited several hospitals and care centres to assess services and engage with officials on strengthening human rights practices.

During the visit to Al Buraimi, the team met with Sayyid Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidy, Governor of Al Buraimi. Discussions focused on the Commission’s role, its statutory responsibilities and avenues for cooperation to support the protection and promotion of human rights.

In Al Batinah North, the delegation visited Sohar Hospital, where they met senior health officials and reviewed a presentation outlining key medical statistics, service delivery, and healthcare provisions for all segments of society, including persons with disabilities and older persons.

The team also toured Al Salwa Health Care Center, a specialised facility offering medical, psychological and social rehabilitation services for individuals with substance use disorders. The visit highlighted the importance of ensuring patients’ rights to treatment and reintegration into society.

In Al Buraimi, the delegation visited Al Buraimi Hospital, where they reviewed recent achievements in the health sector and discussed ongoing challenges, emphasising the need to ensure equitable access to healthcare services for both citizens and residents.

The visit also included Al Wafa Center for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, where the team assessed services related to education, rehabilitation and training for persons with disabilities, while noting key challenges and opportunities for development.

These visits are conducted in line with Article (11) of Royal Decree No 57/2022, which mandates the Commission to carry out field inspections of institutions such as hospitals and detention facilities, and to monitor human rights conditions within them.
